It was a very, very rare occasion that Evangeline would not be home on weekends. She had not yet really gotten into the stage where she would rather be at a friend's house than at home. However, that specific Saturday, Evangeline was staying over with Ariyanna and her daughter, who was one of Angel's closest friends. Elijah was very glad that his daughter was having that social interaction; but, still, he missed her. That was why he was unable to go back to bed after dropping her off over there early that morning. He had, instead, done the dishes, did some cleaning, and then gone out to the stables to check on the horses. They had a stable-hand to come out and take care of them, but Eli liked to help. After all, he was their owners and what was the point in having them if the only people to see them were the ones who worked in the stable? Elijah was not exactly sure where his best friend was that morning, but he was not worried. Kieran was either in the house, whether awake or asleep, or he had gone into town. Elijah could not remember if Kieran's car was still in the driveway or not. He probably should remember that, but his mind was in about a million places all at once. After brushing his hands off on the front of his jeans, Elijah began to make his way back up toward the house. He almost wished he had worn a jacket as the wind was slightly cold; but, the sun was warm, so it almost canceled each other out. Then there would be a wind gust that was strong enough to actually make him shudder a bit. It was one of those odd, in-between days where the weather could not decide whether it wanted to be cold or warm. That was one of the reasons he was never fond of the upcoming months. Plus, rain was more and more likely the farther into fall they got.
A smile tugged on Elijah's lips when he spotted Kieran outside, working on his baby there in the driveway. It was no surprise that Kieran would choose to spend his day off working on his car. It was a very him thing. Elijah had never really gotten into the whole working on cars thing, though he knew enough to be able to fix a tire or change the oil. Beyond the essentials, though, he did not learn. He left that for the professionals. He never took his car to expensive shops or dealerships unless he absolutely had to, however. He would go to small town mechanics who knew what they were doing but did not get the business they deserved. "Morning, Kieran," Elijah stated with a smile as he stopped near the car, putting his hands into his jean pockets. "Been out here long?" He knew that Kieran was an early riser, but he did not remember the man being out there earlier. If he had somehow missed his best friend out there, well, he did not even know. It would just have been odd. "I was gonna go in and make a late breakfast. Want anything?" He was still halfway expecting Evangeline to come tearing out of the house at any moment, insisting that one of them play a game with her. It was nice to have a break, but at the same time, Elijah did not know what to do with himself.
