Robert Scott GrantFull Name:
Nicknames: He goes by “Scott”, and never Robert. He even signs his name as R. Scott Grant, and for this reason he was sometimes jokingly referred to as “R”. Lots of people have taken the name “Scott” as a license to call him “Scotty” (he's heard “beam me up Scotty!” more times than he can count). When he was little his mother called him “Robbie”. If you call him Robbie he cannot be held responsible for his actions (ie. stabbing you in the eye).

5 foot 9Height:
Weight: 140ish pounds, last he checked.
Hair Color: Dark Brown
Eye Color: Blue
Notable Features: No piercings. No tattoos. Some scars here and there from fights he's been in and tumbles he's taken while soused.
Play-By: George Bladgen
General Description: He looks a bit older than he is, and this has helped him to obtain alcohol as a minor. His older appearance has much to do with his addiction as well has the fact that he just doesn't take care of himself. He has none of the scars you might see on other suicides, as his chosen methods have been bloodless. He's relatively fit for someone who drinks as much as he does. His hair is naturally curly, much to his chagrin. He has thinish lips. He sometimes he doesn't bother to shave for days on end. He wears beanies sometimes so that he doesn't have to deal with his hair. For the most part he just takes very little interest in his own appearance. He considers himself ugly, or at the very least nothing worth looking at.[/blockquote]

up. i'm on fire. in the dark, dark. in the dark, dark. all the writers keep writing
Likes:
- Painting. He used to paint all the time, but sometimes it is too difficult to look at his creations because they never feel right. He still paints, but would rather self-immolate than share his work.
- Drinking. This is his number one vice.
- Arguing. He's always a fan of playing the devil's advocate. He was even on his old high school's debate team for a semester in his freshman year, but he was kicked off after he pissed off too many people.
- Sex. I don't think this requires an explanation. He lost his virginity at 14.
- Singing. He was once in a band, but he managed to make all of his band mates hate him and was kicked out. The only reason he joined in the first place was because he was trying to get into a girl's pants, so it wasn't too huge of a blow.
- Being a Sarcastic Dick. He's got a talent for it!
Dislikes:
- Idealism. Well, he once liked idealism, but he's become so cynical that idealism now makes him sick to the stomach.
- Himself. This is his main dislike. There isn't a single thing he can say he honestly likes about himself.
- Religion. After his mother died relatives tried to force him into church, and he just completely rejected religion. It seemed empty and hypocritical and he felt that if there was a god he had abandoned humanity, or at the very least played favourites.
- Feeling completely worthless... and this is how he feels 99.9% of the time.
- Being forced to confront his own issues (he's got no problem with pointing out issues in anything else).
Strengths:
- He's a talented painter. This is his biggest strength. Painting is how he expresses himself. He was arrested once for painting a giant mural on a government building, but no one could deny that it seemed a pity to get rid of the beautiful mural. He feels most at peace when he is in the creative trance that comes with putting paint on a canvas.
- He's a talented singer. With some training he could be a really great singer. But, though he enjoys singing, it isn't his passion.
- He's a skilled debater.
- Creativity. He's always excelled in his creative pursuits.
- He's got an aptitude for languages, which is something you wouldn't expect even if you knew him pretty well.
- Some people appreciate his snarkiness? (Yeah, not many.)
Weaknesses:
- He has trouble turning the sarcasm off and can't take anything seriously. He manages to make a lot of enemies this way.
- He sabotages himself before he can really succeed in anything, mostly because he would rather not try or fuck up on purpose than try his hardest and fail and be disappointed.
- He's terribly cynical.
- He has a self-destructive streak in him.
- He can be a complete dick without meaning to be.
- He is dependant on alcohol to keep him from feeling things.
- He's a terrible student when he isn't interested in a topic.
- He has the habit of getting on the bad side of authority figures by being completely sarcastic and lazy.
- Irresponsible. He doesn't take care of himself at all, flakes out on convictions, and oh, and did I mention he's lazy?
- He doesn't care about anything because caring hurts too much.
- He's not a great math-science person. It bores him and so he makes no effort.
- He deals with problems by ignoring them and drinking.
Fears:
- Large bodies of water. He doesn't know how to swim, and he was pulled out by a rip tide as a child. He can't go near the beach. This makes it all the more puzzling that he chose drowning as his suicide method. His mother loved the beach.
- That he'll die alone and afraid.
- Facing the world without alcohol.
Disorders: Alcoholism, probably major depression.
General Description: He's a cynic. He didn't start off as a cynic, but then his mum died and he became an alcoholic. He's been told that alcohol is his personality. He's sarcastic and argumentative and for this reason he has trouble ingratiating himself with other people. When he's drunk he is full of sarcastic humour and when he's really drunk he blatantly flirts with every warm blooded creature within hearing distance. He doesn't have a very high opinion of himself, but you'd never know it since he's so busy being sarcastic and negative about everything else in the world. He can be fun to have around. He's got a decent sense of humour, though it's always used as an expression of his cynicism. If he's around the right people he can be a riot. He could have come to St. Helena's just for alcoholism, but he was ultimately sent because of a suicide attempt. [/blockquote]

Sheryl Grant (deceased)Mother:
Father: Robert Grant Sr.
Aunt: Linda McKay
History:
Scott started off his life with a doting and wonderful mother who used to take him to the beach at least once a week. His mother, Sheryl, was an artistic and musical woman who instilled in Scott an appreciation of the arts at an early age. Sheryl was an art professor, but took a break from work when Scott was born. Scott never saw much of his dad, who worked for a tech company and was out of town on business more often than not. But, his mother was so loving that he never felt like he was lacking in love. He'd inherited his mother's creativity: he finger painted more than most children did and made up his own songs as a little boy. The house was always full of the pictures he'd painted.
He won a competition for young artists when he was ten and won a scholarship to an expensive school for the arts in Los Angeles, where he focused on the visual arts for the most part, but also participated in theatre and later choir as well. He remained there until he came to St. Helena's. At art school, he didn't challenge himself academically but always did exceedingly well in subjects that required him to use his creativity. He joined a band as a singer/guitarist to get into a girl's pants when he was fifteen, but he managed to alienate his bandmates with his drinking and cynicism (because who wants a bandmate who constantly reminds everyone that they'll never make it big?) and was consequently kicked out of the band.
Scott's mother died of breast cancer when he was thirteen. His dad didn't know what to do with him after that. He and his dad never really had a relationship before his mum died, and her death didn't bring them any closer together. His dad was never really home when he was a child and after his mum died and Scott just sort of went off the rails. He started drinking to cope.
His paternal aunt tried to take Scott a couple months after his mum died, but then she also attempted to indoctrinate him with her evangelical faith. Scott rebelled and stole from her to buy more alcohol. He told her that god was a lie and was kicked out of her house. After that he drank without interruption. He made “friends” with some older kids who always had access to alcohol. They assumed he was older because grief had aged him and his growth spurt came early. He was that one drunk rambler that everyone liked to have a laugh about.
At school he was frequently intoxicated, but his body was so used to it that he functioned almost normally when he was drinking. He was never actually caught drinking except for one time when he was relatively new to the practice, and they blamed it on his mother's death, then sent him to a therapist. He sarcastically made up a bunch of bullshit stories (i.e. I see purple dinosaurs everywhere I go! I think ghosts of dead rabbits are watching me while I sleep. I want to kill my dad and sleep with my stepmother... and this is especially troubling since I don't have a step-mother!) to take up his half-hour of therapy so that they never got to his real issues.
Art school was full of rich kids who got straight A's and hadn't ever suffered. He couldn't relate to any of them after his mother died, and became increasingly isolated. He did have one friend who kept him from simply dropping out of school, but even she couldn't save Scott from himself.
He lived like he had a death wish--- drinking until he blacked out at every chance he got, engaging in sex with strangers, getting into fights he couldn't win, and so on. And then, as it turned out, he did have a death wish.
The first time he attempted suicide he was thirteen years old. He simply took a hand full of his dad's sleeping pills and waited to die. Fortunately, the pills were coated in something that made him puke them all up, and he didn't even end up in a hospital. The second time was only days after the first. This time he took anti-nausea pills along with more sleeping pills. He did wind up in the hospital that time, and all pills were kept behind locks from then on. The third time he attempted suicide he was sixteen.
One early morning (it was the early morning because he'd never actually gone to sleep) he got outrageously drunk and jumped off a pier. The only reason he didn't drown was because some guy was jogging by at that ridiculous hour in the morning (it was 5:00 AM) and witnessed his jump. That guy also happened to be a life guard. Scott woke up in a hospital and was sent to St. Hell's soon thereafter.
