Play-By: David-freaking-Tennant!
General Description: He has a youthful look about him and a buoyant, boyish charm. He is constantly moving, even when he is lecturing he can't sit still. He practically jumps up and down when he is excited by a lecture. He makes wild hand gestures and his face is very expressive. He likes to keep his hair spiked up in just such a way. He dresses in a youthful yet professorial way most of the time, with a sort of suit and then tennis shoes. Sometimes he just opts for casual--- jeans and a tee shirt. His favourite shoes are white converse, which makes his professorial look much less intimidating. He also wears glasses on occasion. [/blockquote]

up. i'm on fire. in the dark, dark. in the dark, dark. all the writers keep writing
Likes:
-Science! Who doesn't? Don't answer that! Science is his raison d'être. He could do science all day and night for the rest of his life and he'd be perfectly happy. He often has equations written up and down his arms. He nearly didn't get his first teaching job (which was at a conventional school) because they thought he was tattooed all over thanks to the equations he'd written all over.
-History! Good old history! Thanks to his academic upbringing he has always felt close to people from the past. He seems to know what it was like to live in the 1600s or at the height of the Roman Empire just as much as he knows how it feels to be alive in the present. He knows the stories of emperors and commoners just as well as he knows his own life story.
-Books! His flat is COVERED in books, from wall to wall. His bed is more book than mattress and his desk chair is actually just a literal pile of books. He's never had to buy any chairs, because whenever anyone visits his place he can just stack up some books and give them a place to sit.
- People! He thinks that every person is fascinating and infinitely important. If he could, he'd listen to all of their stories. People excite him just as much as books do, and they're not half as easy to read. He is especially fond of young people, who are still open minded and willing to open their hearts up to things they've never thought of before.
-Space! When he was a small child he used to dream of riding in a spaceship all over the galaxy and discovering new planets, making first contact with aliens, etc. He used to watch Star Trek and Doctor Who religiously and knew every single line.
-Exclamation Marks!
Dislikes:
-Starvation. He did some humanitarian work when he was younger, in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Sudan, but he never felt like he could do enough.
-Pears. They taste terrible to him. He'd rather shoot himself in the foot than taste a pear.
-When people think that they are too old to have any fun. When people say that you should “grow up”, because what does that even mean? When people say “grow up” they seem to mean “stop being curious, stop enjoying life, go be miserable, get old, and die”. He believes that you are only as old as you feel, and that curiosity isn't something you should grow out of.
-Robots and mannequins. For some reason robots and mall mannequins creep him out, especially the ones that look almost human.
-War. Yeah, what is it good for?
Strengths:
-Cleverness. Not to boast, but he's pretty clever. His IQ is through the charts and every university around wants him as a professor.
-Enthusiasm. He's never bored and always excited because he can find something intellectually stimulating and generally thrilling in just about everything. He could stare at a wall and count tiles and still find something about them to fascinate him. He also learns things more quickly this way, because he can throw himself into just about anything.
-Curiosity. He wants to know everything. And, this makes people feel like he is genuinely interested in them, since he really is.
Weaknesses:
-Childishness. It can be hard for people to take him seriously when he's just as interested in toy trains as the physics lecture he is giving.
-Romantically challenged. He can't to to women. Or men. Or anything in between when he is attracted to them. He just sort of turns into a bumbling idiot, and would rather avoid those situations at all costs. Because of this, he's never been in a real lasting relationship.
-He talks too much, and too quickly. Yes, he babbles at a mile a minute and often loses his audience with his technobabble and such. He has trouble being quiet.
-Sometimes he has feelings of inadequacy, despite his achievements, because he has so much trouble with romantic relationships, and his parents are so disappointed in him.
Fears:
-Death. He doesn't want the fun to end.
-Loneliness. He doesn't want to die alone, but at this rate-- though he does have friends-- he might well die alone. He is incapable of approaching anyone he is attracted to, and he secretly believes that he will never be able to find love because of this.
-Being unable to save someone, to have them slip through his fingers.
-Being a huge disappointment to everyone. His parents are already disappointed enough as it is. He doesn't want them to die thinking that he was a failure.
Disorders: Possibly ADHD, but that will never slow him down.
General Description: He is incredibly talkative and excitable. He's eccentric. He's extroverted and empathetic. People often speculate that he might have ADHD, but he gets so much done amid his excitement that you'd never know for certain. He is generally optimistic, but every once in a while gets into sort of a sad, introspective mood. He seems at once young for his age and like an old soul. He is full of enthusiasm and excitement that is contagious. Everything fascinates him, and he really feels like everyone has something interesting to say and gives all of his students his full attention when they are speaking. He loves adventures and sometimes takes his physics students to theme parks to go on roller-coasters while figuring out all kinds of things about the rides using physics. He also takes his astronomy students on night hikes to go out and look at the stars. He has so much energy that it makes people half his age feel old. Some people find him a little too intense, but others find him amusing and fun to be around. [/blockquote]

Father: John Smith Sr., 74
Siblings:
History: He was born in Scotland but was constantly moving around when he grew up because his father was an astrophysicist and often had to give lectures around the country. He spent a lot of time around London, and developed a sort of soft Estuary English accent because of it. John's mother used to read him history books and was a history professor herself before John Sr became an authority in his field. She hated to leave teaching, and so tutored John at home much of the time, since they never settled down long enough to send John to any one school for very long. As a result, he attended many University lectures given by his father and colleagues and gained an early aptitude to physics and history. John started at university when he was only fifteen years old, and did very well, though he felt quite isolated. He moved over to the states to attend Harvard for Physics and Astronomy, and then he went on to get a Ph.D in physics and did much work in the field of adolescent psychology on the side. He did some work at Cambridge towards the end of his “student” career, and was already teaching by then. Because of his endless energy he was actually able to accomplish these feats without the aid of any Ritalin, though everyone has always said that he is too hyper to be an adult.
He discovered St. Helena's when a young friend of his began seeing things and having flashbacks. He visited her at St. Helena's and felt that they were doing a good thing there, and it really helped his friend, whose family had given up on her. He began volunteering there with her, after she had recovered and was going to college and doing find, just to give back. And, he just sort of never left. His parents, of course, were horrified by this discussion. They feel that he is wasting his potential, that he should have a full professorship at Cambridge by now, and maybe even have a family. But, he loves helping people, and seeing kids who have been struggling walk away inspired and excited about learning makes him indescribably happy.[/blockquote]
