Notable Features: Scars on her arms from cutting
Play-By: Hannah Murray
General Description: Claire has shoulder-length, messy blonde hair that she doesn’t really care about. She only occasionally brushes it, choosing instead to let it do its own thing. She has dead, shallow blue eyes that have seen far too much in her years. She is of average height, but she is far too skinny thanks to her eating disorder. Scars crisscross both arms from her wrists up to her elbows, but she usually hides them with long-sleeved t-shirts.[/blockquote]

Disorders: Persecutory Delusional Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Anorexia, Self-Harming (Cutting and Suicidal Thoughts)
General Description: Claire tries to avoid other people at all costs. She is terrified of others, especially men. Her older brother is the one and only person she actually trusts. All others scare her. Her Persecutory Delusional Disorder makes her think someone is always following her, preparing to cause her harm. Sometimes, she imagines the person, other times, she thinks it is a classmate or a teacher that is after her. Actually classroom settings set off the disorder to the extreme. She can’t learn in a classroom because she is too busy watching the people to make sure nobody tries to do anything to her. At night, she is haunted by nightmares of her past and what has led her here. The only time she feels safe is when she is working on her art. Art is her escape, her way to get everything out without actually having to say anything.[/blockquote]

Father: Michael James Leukin, Deceased
Siblings: Matthew Tyler Leukin, 23
Pets: None
Other: None
History: Claire was an ‘oops’ baby. Sometime after her brother, Matthew, was born, her mother had her tubes tied. The couple was happy with their one child. Despite that, though, Elizabeth still managed to get pregnant again. Claire was born when Matthew was seven. The toddler years were fine, at least as much as they could be. Elizabeth was happy with her daughter, but Michael never managed to attach to her. He worked as a night-shift janitor, the family didn’t have a lot of money, and a part of him always despised having to feed another mouth. If truth be told, he never wanted a daughter anyway.
Elizabeth died when Claire was four. Someone dropped a lit cigarette at the gas station, and nearly managed to blow away half the block. Elizabeth was in the center of the blast zone. Her remains were never found. After that, things got to be hell for Claire and Matthew. Michael couldn’t deal with his wife’s death. He became highly abusive, but he was good at keeping up appearances. He would show up for parent-teacher conferences, he drove his kids to school, and he made sure they had lunch every day. In the privacy of his own home, though, he physically abused his children.
Growing up, Claire loved going to school. It gave her a chance to get away from everything at home, though she never told anyone what was going on. Her father had threatened much worse if anyone ever found out. For several years, Claire was able to rely on Matthew for support. He was going through the same thing she was, he understood, and he did his best to help her out. When he graduated from high school, though, he couldn’t take it anymore. He had been accepted to Dartmouth, he enrolled, and moved cross-country, promising to come back for Claire in the end.
When Claire was 13, Matthew was finishing up his junior year of college and was getting ready to head back home to Tucson, Arizona for the summer. He got a call from the Tucson police in the middle of the night, saying that Claire had shot and killed her father. He caught the next flight home and immediately began dealing with the police, who stated that at the scene, they had found Claire huddled in a corner, clothes torn, covered in blood, the gun still clutched in her hand. Their father had been found lying on the other side of the room in a pool of his own blood, holding a knife.
Matthew recounted the history of abuse to the police, who then agreed to have Claire see a psychologist before the trial. After several sessions over a two-month period and a thorough evaluation, Dr. Ocama diagnosed her with Persecutory Delusional Disorder. With this evidence in hand, the trial began three months after the murder. Claire was forced to relive the abuse on the stand. Much to Matthew’s horror, it had gotten much worse since he had left. Claire stated that she had originally stolen the gun from her father’s nightstand with the intent of shooting herself to escape everything, but when her father had come home drunk and attempted to rape her, she shot him instead.
In the end, the jury found Claire guilty of murder in self-defense. Based on Dr. Ocama’s evidence, the judge thought Claire to be mentally unstable and sent her to Sierra Tucson Treatment Center instead of a juvenile corrections facility. While there, she attended daily therapy sessions and was eventually able to control her PDD. She was released after two years when the nurses and psychologists thought she would be capable of living a normal life.
Matthew immediately decided to move them somewhere else. He thought it would help to get Claire away from the place where all the memories were. He contacted a friend from college and they moved in with him in New Jersey until Matthew could find his own place. Claire was uncomfortable at first, but she eventually warmed up to Jordan. Unfortunately, the stress of being in a new home, not seeing a therapist every day, and adjusting to life in the ‘real world’ was too much stress. The nightmares that she had learned to control in Sierra Tucson started up again. She stopped eating and started cutting. Concerned for her safety, Matthew checked her into an inpatient program where she was prescribed medication for her nightmares, put on a strictly regimented diet, and placed back in therapy. This time, it only took six months for her to get back on track before she was released.
By this point, Matthew was working full-time to get the money needed for his own place. He asked Jordan to keep an eye on Claire while he was at work, but that backfired on all of them. Jordan was as concerned for Claire as Matthew was, so he kept checking up on her. The constant watch triggered the Persecutory Delusional Disorder again, and Claire relapsed. Hesitant to send her back to the hospital, Matthew decided to enroll her at St. Helena’s. The regular hospitals only worked for so long. He is hoping that a new environment that combines normal day-to-day life with the treatment she needs will help get Claire back on track.[/blockquote]
