It was the last class of the day, and none of them seemed to want to be there. Not even Elijah really wanted to be there, simply because of his students' attitudes. He would much rather be at home with his daughter than dealing with teenagers who were oddly quiet. Then, again, it was the first of the year, and everyone was readjusting to school. Elijah guessed that he could not really find fault in them being out of it. He was not exactly with it yet either, and had almost left his lesson plans at home that morning. "So, projection!" Elijah said from his place upstage as he crossed his arms behind his back, clasping his hands behind himself while letting his eyes glance across the forms of his junior level drama class, lips set in a firm line for a moment. "Who can tell me why it is crucial for a stage actor to project his or her voice while enunciating each and every word?" Elijah pursed his lips as he was greeted by silence from the students. There was no way any of them were going to go far in his classes if they did not know the answer to something as simple as that. "Alright, then. Here's what you're going to do: you're going to go to your dorms, and figure the answer out. Because until you do, that's the only thing we are going to work on. Class dismissed. I'll see you tomorrow." Most of the students in the class had been in his class the year before, and he knew they should know the answer. They also knew how he ran his classes. Eli was not sure what they were up to, but whatever it was, he was not amused. Eli waited until the last student had filed out of the room before he started to gather his things from the front of the stage, where he had left them. He was just finishing gathering everything when he could hear the doors at the back of the room open, and someone came in. Eli looked over his shoulder and smiled brightly when he saw the new drama teacher and his best friend. "I'll be damned. It's about time you show your face, Kieran," Eli stated as he left his things so that he could head to the back of the auditorium and hug the man that had always been there for him. "I was beginning to think that you had lied to me when you said you were coming up here." Elijah had gotten word that Kieran was going to be moving up to Summersville in order to start working at St. Helena's, and he had been ecstatic. It had been years since they had any time to actually see one another, their friendship kept up through emails and phone calls. Of course, Elijah had a preference for writing letters, as well. "Have you been in town long? Where are you staying? Did you drive or fly?" Eli could not keep from smiling as he was found face-to-face with his best friend for the first time in too long. It almost felt strange; but, at the same time, just having Kieran around left him with the same level of comfort it always had. He guessed that some things never did change.

Kieran had spent the better part of the morning and early afternoon getting himself situated at St. Helena's He'd loaded up stuff to decorate his office walls, rearranged the furniture to hopefully make it more inviting for the students he was going to be counseling. He had a stack of files on his desk he needed to read over, lesson plans he needed to make for the anger management and drama classes he was teaching. That was going to have to wait until later. He'd take it back to his motel room if he needed too to get it all done. Why did it seem like their were never enough hours in a day? He straightened up the mess he had made of boxes, and decided to take a break for a bit. Wandering down the hall, he eventually found his best friend's office. Unfortunately, he wasn't in. After walking toward the break room and asking someone he saw, he knew Eli was teaching a drama class. Smiling to himself, he walked out to his car, and started the engine. His beloved '67 Impala roared to life and AC/DC blasted from the speakers. Using his phone he got directions to the nearest Starbucks. He figured his friend could use a pick-me-up, Kieran knew he could. When was coffee not good? He didn't think he could survive without it. After he got their coffees, he headed back to St. Helena's. When he parked the car, he cut the engine, and got out, carefully carrying the coffees as he made his way into the building and walked toward the auditorium. He'd found it earlier, seeing as he would be teaching a class there as well. Cautiously balancing the coffees, he opened the auditorium door, and stepped inside. As he entered, a grin spread across his face at the sight of Eli. He chuckled heartily as he made his way down the isle toward the older man he cared a great deal for. ”I come bearing gifts in the form of coffee for the Overlord,” he teased smiling widely, and extended the cup that contained the French Vanilla Latte to Eli. When he had a hand free, he hugged Eli, mindful of both of their coffees. While they had kept in touch, it had been awhile since they had seen each other in person, and Kieran was so happy. After a bit he released him, and said, ”I know. I had planned to get here earlier, and it just didn't happen,” he said shrugging his shoulders and taking a drink of his coffee before he continued. ”I drove the Impala here and just got in town late last night, so I just rented a motel room. Didn't want to wake you guys up or nothin'. I have to start looking for an apartment or a house. He hoped he could find something close to Elijah. ”Enough about me, man. How are you? How's Evangeline?” he asked excitedly. He loved that little girl like she was his own daughter. OUTFIT

"Coffee," Eli all but moaned as he took the extended gift from his best friend. "You are definitely a life saver." Eli had not had coffee at all that day; they were out of it at the house, and he had spent the morning with Evangaline, leaving too late to stop by someplace and pick some up. He smiled as he took a drink of the coffee, surprised and not at the same time that the coffee was his favorite one. He had never said anything about his preferred coffee type, but Kieran often knew things like that about him without having to be told, just like how Elijah knew what the other man's favorite food was. It came from having been friends for years, he guessed. He grinned at the mention of the Impala, knowing that car was one of Kieran's favorite possessions. He did not blame the man at all, it was a great car. "Whoa, wait, hold up. A hotel?" questioned Eli, scrunching his face up in distaste before shaking his head. "Nope, nuh-uh. That's not happening. You're going to get whatever you took out of the Impala, put it back in, and drive your ass out to my place. No friend of mine is going to stay at a hotel when there's plenty of space with me." Elijah's home was rather big for just him and Evangeline, but it was a family property that he had been given when he graduated college. Of course, when he had moved in, the plan was for him, his daughter, and her mother to be there, as well as any possible future children. However, things changed, but Eli could not bring himself to move. His daughter loved their home, and he did not want to shake things up for the little girl more than it was already. She did not remember her mother; but, she knew that her mother had died. She was always the first to point out that at least she had a daddy that loved her very much and would even play princesses with her. "Shouldn't have worried about that. She sleeps through anything, and you're always welcome over, you know that."
Elijah took another drink of his coffee, reveling in the sweet relief of caffeine in his system. It was making the slight headache that had been forming fade away. Maybe that was his sign that he relied too much on caffeine; but, he would not give it up. "I've been good. Trying to get back into the swing of the school year. Spent the summer with Angel and my family was up here to visit. Perry has gotten big." Perry was his brother's little boy. Elijah did not get to see them as often as he would like; but, once a year, the entire family came up for a visit. It was nice, and Evangeline loved it. "Angel's gotten bigger since our trip down there last year," Eli told Kieran with a proud smile and a nod. "She's excited to see you again. I swear, she almost likes you more than me." Elijah loved how well that Evangeline had accepted Kieran as his friend and someone important. She had pushed him to play Barbies with her, and from that moment on, she had been one of his biggest fans. "Seriously, man, go get your stuff. I'm done here for the day, my short day. We can go out to the house, and surprise her with the fact that you're actually here. She asks every day if you're here yet." Eli smiled at Kieran, unable to accurately express just how glad he was that the other man was there. It was good to have his best friend back. Plus, Eli worried about Kieran always; and, it was easier for him to know that his friend was alright if they were nearby.

Kieran smirked at Elijah's reaction to the beverage. Some things never changed, he thought to himself. Though truth be told, he loved coffee probably just as much as Elijah did. It was one of his weaknesses. He could never start his day without it. When Elijah scrunched up his face at the mention of Kieran staying in a hotel, Kieran could not help but let out a laugh. ”Yes, a hotel,” he said with a smirk. Really, despite what Elijah might think, Kieran did not think it was that bad. It was relatively clean compared to some hotels he'd slept in, and it sure beat sleeping in his car. The Impala was his baby, but it was not the most comfortable thing to sleep in, he knew from experience.”Alright, alright, he said, holding up his free hand in mock surrender. He wouldn't argue with Elijah about it, simply because he had a feeling he wouldn't win. Not against Elijah, and not about something like that. Elijah would probably find his hotel room if he didn't. In a town like Summerville, Kieran did not think it would be very hard.
Taking a drink of his coffee, Kieran savored the taste on his tongue, as he listened to his best friend talk about his family. Family. It wasn't something Kieran could really relate too. At least not family by blood. Kieran had been estranged from his own family for a few years now. Since he's relapsed, actually. Elijah and Angel were the closest thing he had to family now. ”That's because she has good taste,” he teased with a smirk. ” I have lots of pictures to show her, and a few presents from my travels this Summer,” he said happily. Kieran had spent his Summer traveling around the country, and climbing mountains. Literally. It was something he'd been introduced to when he went to the school for troubled teens, something he still enjoyed to this day. He would probably only stop when he could no longer physically climb anymore. Angel may not be his daughter, but Angel sure had Kieran wrapped around her finger. Who else could talk him into playing Barbies, even getting him to try to do voices for them, because the look on her face was too cute.”Okay, I need a break from setting up my office, anyway. It can wait until tomorrow,” he decided easily. ”I need to grab some files from my office, stop by the hotel, and then I'll meet you there.” he said grinning happily, and moved to hug Elijah again, and when he pulled back, let his hand linger on the slightly shorter man's shoulder. He was just so incredibly happy to see him again. It had been far too long, but now they could, and would make up for it. Dropping his arm, Kieran turned to leave the auditorium. Finally, Kieran felt like his life was really on track again. And working and living near Elijah for the first time in a long time didn't hurt either. Truthfully, Elijah and Angel gave him a reason to stay sober, he didn't know where he'd be without them.

Elijah narrowed his eyes at Kieran's response. No, no hotel was good enough for a friend to stay, especially over a long period of time. It just would not do. Eli took another drink of his gifted coffee and his expression turned into a grin when his best friend agreed to come to the house. "Good, 'cause Evangeline would hate me forever if you said otherwise, like it'd be my fault," he sounded annoyed by the statement, but really he was more amused (especially at the truth in it), which was made known by the smile on his face. Honestly, he loved how well Evangeline had opened up with Kieran, something that did not happen often with strangers, as the man had been when they met. He was definitely one of her favorites by then. Elijah groaned good naturedly when Kieran mentioned having presents for Evangeline, a slight smile tugging up on his lips. "You're going to spoil that girl, y'know." Not that everyone else who knew her had not worked on spoiling her already. She was one of the most loved children between Elijah himself, his family, and Kieran; there was no way she would ever go without. "Sounds like a plan. Do you still remember the way or do you need me to text you directions?" He grinned and took another sip of his coffee, nearly finished with it already, which was disheartening. He would just make more when he got to the house after he changed into more kid-friendly clothes. He waited until Kieran had left to head back to the front of the auditorium to grab the things he needed. Once he had everything, he started out to the parking lot where his car was waiting, and started for home. Eli gave the babysitter a head's up that she would be able to leave within a few minutes, whenever he actually got to the house which was about ten or fifteen minutes outside the city limits on the opposite side of town from the school. He had quite a drive to make in the mornings, but he liked living farther away from the school. It made things less dangerous, as only a fool would believe there were not dangerous students in that school. He would not call them crazy, but some of them lacked the emotions that made them realize hurting others was not okay. Then there were those who knew it was not okay, but could not really control it when they got angry enough. Eli sighed softly as he pulled into the parking area outside the garage (which housed the ATV's and emergency equipment for if the power went out). The babysitter met him at the door and they said their good-byes before he walked in. "Hey, babygirl," he called over to the boat swing in the living room where Evangeline was curled up with her favorite stuffed bear, watching The Black Cauldron. "Gurgi is on!" she called back with a grin, wiggling in place. "Daddy, watch."
Eli chuckled and watched over to press a kiss to the top of her head, running a hand through her curly, blonde hair. "Let me change first, and then I will." He smiled as she agreed and then went down the hall to the master bedroom, where he changed into an old band t-shirt that he had gotten at a concert in college, and a pair of jeans that were getting a bit thin from wear. Once changed, he went to go put on some coffee, grabbed two juice boxes and then went over to the swing to sit with her, drinking juice and watching The Black Cauldron. Eli was in a great mood, and could not keep from smiling, even as Evangeline kept moving around the bed of a swing, playing with some Barbies while watching the Disney film. He was not sure how long they had been there when they heard a car door shut outside and Evangeline looked confused. Maga and Paca (what she called Elijah's parents) were not due for a visit and she knew her daddy had not ordered food because he never went to the phone. "I'll go get the door, you stay here and watch Gurgi." He pressed a kiss to her head and climbed out of the boat, setting his juice pouch on the table underneath the television that was mounted on the wall. "Guard daddy's juice from the juice monsters." He chuckled as his daughter nodded with a serious expression as she promised to do that, and he made his way to the front door, opening it and standing in the doorway with a smile to Kieran. "Need help carrying anything in?"

Kieran smiled happily when Elijah commented about him spoiling Evangeline. Of course, he was going to spoil her. He kind of saw that as his job, especially when he had not lived nearby. Now, living in the same town as her and Elijah, Kieran could not wait to spend more time with her. It would be so much better than just a few days every now and then. ”I'm good,” he said, figuring he knew Elijah's address, it would be easy enough to plug it in to the map app on his phone. Smiling, he turned and walked toward the doors, taking a drink of his coffee as he walked. Kieran pulled open the door and went in the direction of his office, finishing his cup of coffee as he did so. He reached into his pocket, grabbed his keys and unlocked the door. Stepping inside, he turned on the lights, threw away his empty coffee cup, and grabbed the things he needed to take with him. There wasn't much, just his laptop and a few papers.
Making his way over he made sure his office window was closed and securely locked, then took his things before shutting off the lights and exiting his office. It did not take him long to reach the Impala. Balancing his stuff in one hand, he unlocked the door with the other, and climbed in placing the laptop and folder on the seat next to him. Placing the key in the ignition once he was situated, the engine roared to life, music blaring from the speakers. He rolled down the windows preferring the breeze to the AC. It did not take him too long to reach the hotel, and it took him even shorter to be ready to leave. Kieran was not a materialistic person, not someone who brought with him double than what he absolutely needed. Sure, he had more than what was currently in his car, having paid to put a few things in storage wile he traveled over the Summer, until he got settled in to Summersville. Picking up his duffel bag, he returned the key to the front desk, and informed them he would be checking out, then hit the road.
He was pretty sure he knew where it was, but pulled out his phone and put the address in anyway. After a bit of driving, he was told he was at his destination, which he already knew because he recognized the house. It was not a house he could easily forget. Most of the time Kieran forgot Elijah had money. He just was not the type who acted all snooty because of it. If he had been, Kieran was sure they would not have been friends. Money had been tight growing up, they got by, but it had been tough. His father always spent most of the family's money on alcohol. The rock music stopped when he parked the car and got out. He wasn't going to carry it all in now, he wanted to see Evangeline. Instead, he just grabbed to bags, one had gifts in it and the other had laundry that needed to be done. ”No, I'll get the rest later, I want to see Evangeline,” he said smiling at Elijah. ”I hope you don't mind I brought some laundry to do?” he asked though he knew Elijah would not mind. ” So where's the squirt?” he asked grinning unable to hold back his excitement.

Growing up in his family, Elijah never wanted for anything material. His parents' families each had a lot of money, and they, themselves, made a lot of money. However, the Conner family always mad vast donations to hospitals, and charities that they believed in. Quite a lot of Eli's salary went to the local animal shelter or programs to benefit less fortunate children. His parents donated to St. Jude's a lot, and his siblings preferred other organizations. They were known to volunteer at shelters and soup kitchens, especially around the holidays. The Conner children were spoiled, but taught humility and gratefulness. Eli was sure that was part of why he and Kieran got along despite their very different social backgrounds. If it were not for the fact that his parents were more level headed and down to earth than his grandparents were, Eli very well could have ended up as one of those rich snobs. Sometimes, though, he did not remember that not everyone had multiple cars or a nice house on a horse ranch. It would slip his mind, but when he would remember, he usually felt kind of bad. He knew that Kieran was not quite used to bigger houses like that; but, Eli tried to keep the place as cozy as possible, for being an mostly empty large-family home as it had been intended to be. Eli and Evangeline's mother had talked about more kids; but, they had never had that chance. "Alright," replied Eli with a laugh, and a nod. He would just help with the other bags later. He did not blame Kieran for wanting to see Evangeline first; he always did. Then, again, he might have been slightly biased. "'Course not. Wouldn't want you walking around wearing smelly clothes anyway." Elijah smirked at Kieran before telling him where he could set the bags for the time being, and then he led the other man into the living room where Evangeline was, the little girl having found her kitten.
The kitten, named Tabby, was curled up on the boat swing next to Angel, purring softly as the little girl idly petted her and was drinking the last of her juice. The pups were outside for the time being, though Elijah was sure they would be running in through the doggy door at any time. "Angel, look who's here for a while," Elijah announced as he and Kieran actually walked into the room. Evangeline almost reluctantly looked away from the screen, where Gurgi was going on about something or another. Eli was not sure what scene it was exactly. Of course, the moment the little girl saw Kieran standing there, her face brightened with a smile and she let out a sound almost similar to a yell before she scrambled up and out of the swing, minding her dad's warning of being careful. She then half-ran-half-toddled over to where they were, demanding a hug from Kieran as she said, "Kie! You're here!" The little girl could not quite say his name right, so she stuck with what she could sound easily. She could not keep from giggling and smiling. She easily remembered the guy that had played Barbies with her. It was almost as fun as when daddy would dress up and play princesses. Almost. Princesses was always better though. Plus, she felt her dad won always because he was her daddy. Kieran was high on her list of great things, though. "Lookit! Daddy got me a kitty!" Evangeline was very proud of her new kitten, especially since she knew her daddy did not really like cats. The man had only gotten the kitten because she had fallen in love with the tiny thing. Tabby was one of the first things that Evangeline pointed out to anyone who came into the house since the kitten's arrival.
"He's gonna stay here at the house for a while. S'that alright with you, princess?" Elijah asked her, though he already knew her answer. It just made it that much more of a big deal to her if she thought that she got the final say in the matter. Angel nodded rapidly as she bounced a little with a giggle and a smile. "Yes, yes. You have to stay here! Daddy's making ba-sketti tonight. He promised." Elijah laughed with an amused smirk at that new bit of information from his daughter. "Oh, I did; did I?" He laughed again as Angel nodded a few times with a toothy grin.

He smiled, nodding some, before placing his bags down where Elijah indicated, and followed the other man into the living room. It had been awhile since Kieran had been to their home, though not much had seemed to change. That is until he got a glimpse of Evangeline. She had grown so much! Kieran could remember holding her in his arms when she'd been a baby. Kids grew up too fast, he concluded. He grinned as Evangeline called out to him, and he knelt down to be at her level. ”Hey, darlin'” he said happily, his Texan accent coming through as he spoke. He wrapped his arms around her in a hug. ”You look like you grew a foot since I saw you last. Are you sure you're Evangeline Connor?” he teased he lightly. Kieran looked at the kitty, unable to keep from grinning. He was so happy to be here with both of them. They meant the world to him. ”I see. Does the kitty have a name?”he asked her kindly. Admittedly, Kieran was not super fond of cats himself, as he knew Elijah wasn't either, but that look on her face, How happy she was, made him love the little ball of fur, anyway. Kieran glanced between Elijah and Evangeline as Elijah asked her what she thought of him staying with them. Smiling as the little girl not only agreed, but insisted. ”Ba-sketti. That's a deal maker right there. You both know the way to my heart, food,” he said smirking at Elijah as he stood up, while chuckling a little. Okay, so he would have stayed even without the spaghetti. He would have stayed because Elijah and Evangeline asked him too. He cared for them a great deal, in fact he couldn't think of anyone he cared for more. At one time, Kieran had, had a crush on Elijah. But, that had been years ago, he still cared for him, but wasn't going to dwell on something that would never happen. Elijah was straight, had never shown any interest in Kieran. He'd accepted it would never be, even if it did not change how he felt. ”Angel, I've got somethin' for you from my travels this Summer,” he said and quickly left the room and went to where he'd put his bags. Reaching in one he pulled out the present that was haphazardly wrapped in newspaper and duct tape. So, yeah, he was not a good present wrapper. Walking back into the room, he handed it to Evangeline and waited. Truthfully, Kieran was a bit nervous. He hadn't seen Evangeline in a while, and he didn't spend a lot of time around 4-year old girls, so he was just hoping she would like it. When she had it unwrapped he felt the need to explain. “I got them on a beach in California, I thought we could paint them or somethin'” Little girls liked art projects like that, right? He hoped so because he'd spent a good amount of time at the beach finding ones he'd thought would be good for that. Some of the other guys he'd been there to climb with had found it funny. But, if it would make this little girl happy, his masculinity could take a hit. GIFT

Angel giggled and grinned as she returned the hug, glad to see her daddy's best friend again. It had been a long time since she had seen him, though it seemed a lot longer than it was. "A'course I am!" Evangeline insisted with a nod, practically bouncing on her toes. "Uh-huh. Her name is Tabby! She sleeps lots. Daddy says s'cause she's still a baby." Angel nodded rapidly a couple of times, all smiles as she looked over to the kitten before back to Kieran. It was the best night ever, she concluded. "Well, I guess the verdict is in on dinner, then," Elijah replied with a chuckle, shaking his head with a fond smile as Evangeline was quite vocal about how she was very happy with that choice. Spaghetti was her favorite dinner, after all. Especially with the garlic bread that her daddy would make with it, and she got to drink the special grape juice. The "special" grape juice was really just sparkling juice but it made Evangeline feel grown up because it was like that purple drink adults had in those movies. She was not sure what the drink was, but it was important. "A present?" questioned Evangeline, jumping in place once as she clapped her hands together with a smile. She loved presents. They were always amazing, especially the ones from Kieran or her daddy.
"While you're getting that, I'll start dinner," Elijah stated, moving into the kitchen area while Eva waited impatiently for Kieran to return. It always made him smile how well his best friend got along with his daughter. It would not be right if things were any different way. It made him want to make sure that he was a steady fixture in her life, too. She loved the other man dearly. Elijah was not straight by any means, nor did he ever pretend to be. The only times he had been in a relationship with another guy, however, had never been serious, and it had been during high school. Kieran's life was a mess during that time, and Eli was not one to really talk much about his personal life. So, it was not something that had ever come up between them. His family was well aware of his sexuality and supportive of him. As long as he was happy, they were happy. That was what mattered in the end. Eli had never really thought about his feelings toward Kieran. They were always something that were just there, so he had never distinguished if they were platonic or not. Having Kieran there did not change that at all, though it made Eli feel a lot happier knowing that Kieran would be staying there.
Evangeline sat down to tear into the poorly wrapped present, though the wrapping never mattered to her. It was the gift that was the best part. She smiled brightly and giggled with a nod at Kieran's suggestion of painting them. "Daddy, lookit! Shells!" She scrambled up from her spot to go over and hug Kieran again, all smiles and giggles. "Thank you!" Elijah chuckled with a smile as he put the pot of water on the stove top, turning the burner on high. He was unable to keep from smiling as he watched the other two. Seriously, the two of them were the most important people in his life and he was ten times more relaxed having Kieran around again. "Evangeline has an entire collection of pretty shells in her room," Elijah explained to Kieran while digging through the cabinets to grab the spices needed for the spaghetti sauce. "She loves to paint and glitter them."
Eva nodded a few times with a bright smile, all but bouncing on her toes as she said, "Daddy can help us too, right?" She loved painting, and coloring, and glitter. She loved arts and crafts in general. The best part of it, though, was getting to do projects with other people. That always made it more fun.
