However, that night, he saw little point in driving all the way home when he would only come back to town a few hours later. Alaric was honestly was not sure why he had finally agreed to going on a blind date that Abby was setting him up on. That alone should have made him a bit wary. Maybe it would get her to back off on the whole dating thing if he went on the one date. It could not hurt, anyway. Until it was time to leave, Ric decided he would stick around the school, working on some of his paperwork. He sang whatever songs came to mind as he worked, flicking his hair out of his eyes every now and then when he glanced up at the clock. Ric was only a little nervous. He was never good at the whole dating thing. He was not sure how he was supposed to know who he was meeting, either. Then again, he guessed Abby probably told the other guy what he looked liked so they weren't both totally in the dark. Ric tapped his fingers on top of the desk as he sang, sighing inaudibly as he wet his lips. "Some day, I'll be big enough so you can't hit me... |
[/i]" he sang, marking out a mistake on one of his students' papers. With another glance at the clock, he realized that he should probably head out. Alaric grabbed his wallet, phone, keys, and jacket before heading out of the school building to the parking lot, where his car was waiting. He almost considered just going home, but did not want to come across as that kind of asshole. So, he made his way to the restaurant they were supposed to meet at. " Oh, uhm, yeah. There's a table reservation under Alaric," he told the hostess when she asked if she could get him a table. He had been told by Abby that she had already gotten the table under his name, so he couldn't back out. However, he was starting to wonder if he could prove her wrong. He followed the hostess to the table, though, and took one side of the booth with a smile in thanks. He ordered some soda to drink before starting to fiddle with the silverware on the table. He was still a couple minutes early, but he did not want to wait outside. The guy would show up eventually; at least, Ric hoped so. He was bad enough at dating, but being stood up on a blind date would be pretty bad. He could only hope that things would not seem so awkward once the other guy was there. " What am I doing?" he asked himself under his breath, letting go of the silverware to run a hand through his hair. There was a slight chance everything would be fine; but, an even bigger chance that nothing would go right. Ric guessed that was why he was nervous. There was the unknown factor in all of it that made it pretty terrifying. He had not been sitting there very long when the hostess appeared again, leading someone else to the table, and Alaric was shocked for a good moment at the fact that, apparently, the guy Nykki was hooking him up with worked at St. Helena's with him. Alaric could not remember the guy's name to save his life; but, he definitely remembered seeing the man around, mostly near the hospital wing. " Uhm, hi..." he said awkwardly with a smile at the other man. " So, you're the guy Abby decided I should go on a date with, huh? I'm Ric. Sorry, I don't remember what your name was, if I ever caught it..." It was highly likely that Alaric had never heard the man's name, but at the moment he was too busy trying not to seem so awkward to really focus on that bit. Abigail had told him constantly that her friend Alaric was quite a guy. The way she carried on about him, Salizar was half-expecting to see Jesus sitting at the table when he arrived at the restaurant that night. Abigail cared a lot for this man, and she had warned him, on numerous occasions once she'd gotten him to agree to this blind date, that if he hurt Alaric in the slightest, she would happily castrate and neuter him. Both were rather painful proceedures that he'd rather not have to undergo during any time of his life. Ever. Just the thought of it made him want to shudder.
It had taken all of his control that day to carry on as usual and not hide away in his office all day and night. He had no doubt though, that if he stood Alaric up, Abigail would likely hurt him. Direly. The day otherwise was exceptionally uneventful. So as his office hours dwindled down, he took to filling out the remaining papers on some of the students that had come in that day to see him. A broken knuckle, he'd claimed he'd fallen in gym... Salizar suspected the boy had hit something. Likely a wall, but with no proof, he had to simply write down his speculations. When time came to head to the restaurant, he sighed, rising to his feet. He shed his white coat, hanging it up by the door and grabbed his own jacket, tugging it on and grabbing his keys. He locked the door, placing the keys into his jacket pocket.
His luck would have him running into Abigail on his way out. First she hassled him over what he was wearing, claiming he was over-dressed for the occasion, and then stated he was going to be late. Well if she hadn't stopped to talk to him and held him up, then he wouldn't have been bordering on late! Silly girl. The drive to the restaurant was a short one, and as he arrived, his stomach began fluttering again. When was the last time he'd been on a date? Sophomore year? He hated dates, he got so flustered all the damn time. He stepped into the restaurant, casting a glance at the clock, he wasn't late yet, but just on time. He looked up at the hostess as she came up. "Um... reservation Alaric Jester?" he asked softly, watching the female for a moment as she picked up a menu and eyed him speculatively.
He knew he should have taken the time to go back to the manor and gotten his vest and cleaned up a little bit. He sighed softly as he was moving after the hostess towards the table and taking note of the solitary male at the table the hostess was headed towards. He'd seen the other male around the school and he smiled slightly as the male spoke to him. He moved to sit down across from the other male and offered a smile. "Hi," he said softly, folding his hands on the table before the hostess placed the menu in front of him and walked away. "I suppose I am. Abigail speaks very highly of you," he stated simply, looking up at the other male. "She's been trying to get me to agree to this for a while, I don't really... go on many dates..." Let alone blind dates!
He smiled as Alaric gave him his name and he smiled. "Salizar Snighrig," he stated simply. "I've seen you around the school but... we haven't been able to properly meet yet, I don't think," he stated with an apologetic smile. "I'm sorry for my state of dress... I came directly from the school so I didn't have time to grab something better..." he stated easily, glancing down over the menu so he could figure out what he wanted to drink that evening... and eat. | [atrb=style, font-family: Tahoma; word-spacing: 1px; text-align: center; background-color: #000000; border: 2px solid #939393; color: ; padding: 10px; opacity: 0.5]TAGGED: ric || WORD: 682 || OUTFIT: clicky

"Yeah, well, me either," Alaric stated with a shake of his head. Honestly, he had still been in high school the last time he had actually gone out on a date. He'd had a few flings in college, but those were all about sex and not about dating. Maybe that was why Abby was so insistent that he go out with this guy, the fact that neither one of them had much dating experience. It made things seem a bit awkward, but maybe that was just Ric. "I've seen you around the school but... we haven't been able to properly meet yet, I don't think." Alaric shook his head a little, running a hand through his hair, managing to make it that much more unruly before he said, "No, we haven't. You work in the medical wing, right?" It was the only place Ric had ever seen the guy before, so it was where he was assuming Salizar worked. Alaric's brow rose when the other man apologized for the way he was dressed. The guy looked about ten times better, and definitely more put together, than Ric did. He laughed and smiled with a shake of his head, flicking his hair back out of his eyes. "Nah, you're fine. More than fine, actually. You look great." Alaric felt a lot under-dressed in comparison, but what was he going to do, pull something nice out of thin air? Ric did not own nicer clothes than what he wore to work. He had no use for nice clothes.
"So, it's been years since I've been to one of these places. Any ideas what's good?" he asked with a smile, idly stirring the ice in his empty soda glass with the straw. He bounced his knee under the table, unable to sit still for very long. he was not sure why he was so nervous still. The guy seemed nice enough, so maybe the evening would not go as badly as Ric had feared. "So, how long have you worked at St. Helena's? I've only been here about a year; but, I'm an alumni, so it feels like a lot longer." There were still some times that Ric could not believe he had actually graduated, and stranger still was the fact that he had not had a relapse since high school. There were a few close calls there, but he always managed to avoid it in the end. At least with the drugs. He would admit there had been a few occasions of relapsing with self harm and his eating disorder; but, he did make it through those relapses with some help of friends he had made in college. Having Nykki to talk to helped; but it was different only being able to contact her on the phone or a computer and having her there. Things were easier when she was actually there. College had been a very stressful time. After a moment, Alaric let out a breath, blowing his hair back out of his eyes before laughing a little and saying, "I'm sorry. 'M probably going to fail at this whole making conversation thing. I've no idea what I'm doing. My last date was in high school, and it had been a disaster." Ric flushed a little at the admittance, but he busied himself with stirring the ice so that he could focus on something else other than the embarrassing truth in his statement. He honestly felt awkward and out of place next to Salizar, but the man was really nice to look at, so there was a positive point in Abby's favor of her choice.

Well, it made him feel a little better, so what if he was socially awkward? He watched the male for a moment, tilting his head. "So what's your excuse for not dating much? You're good-looking... and according to Abigail, you have a very good sense of humor... and to be so close to her, you must be a good person..." He wondered why Alaric hadn't been on many dates. He didn't know many people who wouldn't want to go on a date with this charming young man. "I mean, I know the reason I don't date much, I'm just a socially awkward nerd who spends to much time with his nose buried in books..." He laughed softly, though it was mostly to cover up the bitterness he felt.
When the other asked about where he worked, he nodded slightly. "Yes, I'm the head of the medical wing," he said softly. He had one RN and then Abigail working under him in the infirmary, but it also meant he had a lot of long hours. If there was something the RN couldn't handle, like anything with medications stronger than advil unless otherwise perscribed, then he had to do it. Or anything with overdosing or in cases of fights when reports had to be filed. And in cases of emergencies... he was the one on call at all hours of the night. He was glad Chris had joined the crew, because it made his job a whole lot easier. And Abigail's since Abigail didn't much like needles, Chris could draw blood from the students for Abigail to test instead of her having to draw the blood herself to make sure the addicts were staying clean.
Salizar was brought back to the present when Alaric stated that his attire was more than fine. "You're sure? Abigail told me when she stopped me on my way out that I was overdressed, but then the hostess looked at me critically as if I were not properly dressed enough," he stated, shaking his head slightly. "And I am quite fond of Abigail, but sometimes, her advice on clothing can be a little... abstract," he stated with a faint smile. "If you know what I mean. That is, of course, saying nothing badly about her. But I do not think I could dress the way that she often does." Spiked collars and pants with chains attached and platform boots were just not his thing.
He glanced down at the menu and shook his head slightly. "I am not entirely sure. Well... we could try something like this Create a Sampler Italiano... I mean you can make your own plate and choose from 3 dishes. Calamari, stuffed mushrooms, fried zucchini, chicken fingers, fried mozzarella or toasted ravioli... beef and pork..." he said with a little uncertainty. Hell he didn't even know what the hell calamari was. But stuffed mushrooms sounded alright. The notation said it was made with clams. He looked up at the other with a smile before looking back to the menu. "I'm also a fan of chicken... that Chicken Marsala looks pretty good... I'm not sure what Marsala wine is, but the rest of it looks pretty good..." he stated softly, tilting his head slightly.
When Alaric asked how long he'd been at St. Helena's he shrugged. "Not that long, I interviewed over the summer, actually... and when I got the job and learned they were hiring for lab technician, I immidiately called Abigail. She and I studied together in college, and I knew we'd work great together," he stated, smiling slightly. "I don't think she really expected to get the job, but I knew she was best for it, and then she even got the chem classes on top of it." He smiled at the memory of her phone call to him after she'd gotten the message. She'd been out to lunch or he'd have invited her out himself. She'd been very excited. About then, though, is when the waiter approached and asked if they were ready.
"Um... sure..." he said, looking back at the menu. "I'll have the Chicken Marsala, and a Dr. Pepper to drink, please," he said softly before looking to Alaric as the other placed his order before he answered the other's comment on the topic of conversation. "I think you're doing a fine job so far, Alaric," he stated softly. "My last date was... sophomore year of undergraduate college, but it did not go exactly as planned. I believe I ended up getting a glass of raspberry tea thrown into my face and I was called an insensitive prick simply because I didn't lie to him." He gave a slight wince at the memory. "After that I decided it wasn't really worth my time or the dry-cleaning bill to do it again." He shrugged slightly with a slight laugh. "But Abigail was quite insistant, and I'm actually rather glad I let her convince me to come..." So far, anyway. | [atrb=style, font-family: Tahoma; word-spacing: 1px; text-align: center; background-color: #000000; border: 2px solid #939393; color: ; padding: 10px; opacity: 0.5]TAGGED: ric || WORD: 902 || OUTFIT: clicky

He gestured to himself, flicking his hair out of his eyes before saying, "Musician. That, and I'm a bit of a workaholic, so... There's just... never the time, y'know?" Many would say the whole musician bit would tie in to the whole workaholic thing, but whatever. Either way, work and music took up the majority of his free time. It was rare that Alaric had the time to just... go out on a date or even find someone he might be slightly interested in. It was not something he could do often, if at all. Plus, Alaric did have a hard time opening up to people about things that most people got annoyed with him about if they were in a relationship. There were just things that Ric did not want to share, and would not even talk about with Abby. Alaric nodded with a smile when Salizar told him about being the head of the medical wing. Something like that was a lot of responsibility. Ric was not sure he could ever do something that important. He'd only mess it up somehow. Thankfully, he had no medical knowledge, so nobody would be looking to him to fill the position at any time for any reason. "I'm sure," replied Alaric with a smile and a slightly amused laugh. "You look great. It's better than what I'm wearing, anyway." Ric did not really own anything nice like that. His clothes were mostly skinny jeans in a wide variety of colors, some nicer shirts, and t-shirts for when he did not work. He basically always wore some kind of Converse or similar type shoe. Salizar definitely made the whole formal look work. Ric would look ridiculous if he ever tried to do something like that. Maybe it was the hair. Ric would not stop dying his hair blue, though. He liked it better that way.
Alaric hummed a little in response as Salizar talked about the things on the menu. The chicken parmigiana was what he was looking at, himself, and he knew he would probably end up getting that. He smiled, though, as Salizar went on to explain how long he had been working at the school. "Well, congratulations. I know the school's better off with having a competent head of medical. The last guy that was here was old when I was in high school. I swear they should have taken away his license to practice." Alaric shook his head a little, though he was being completely honest. The last head of medical had gotten to be too old. It just did not work well for anyone. "Of course they'd take Abby on. They know her. They like hiring old students that have gone through the right training. Cause we can relate to the new students better or something. I wasn't really listening in my chat with the principal." Alaric waved his hand dismissively with a soft laugh, shrugging a little. It was true, though. The administration hoped that by hiring students that had graduated from St. Helena's on as teachers, they could easier reach the new students. Ric was not sure whether or not it actually worked in their favor.
"Oh, uhm, I'll have the chicken parmigiana," he ordered when the waitress came back. She offered wines that would go well with each dish and Alaric shook his head a little. "None for me, thanks." Alaric did not drink, save for two shots on two separate days once a year. He would not even touch wine. He did not want to risk finding something else to latch onto. Plus, if he was sober, he could easier help friends that were not. "Oh, well that sucks," Alaric said with a shake of his head. "I think my last date was worse, though. She left half-way through to go meet up and get back together with her ex. It was terrible." Alaric had not really tried to date since then, and his schedule got too busy not long after that. He guessed it was just a good thing he had not gone into college still dating her. "Yeah? Well, 'm glad too. I didn't exactly have high hopes for tonight, but you've already proven me wrong on a lot." Alaric shrugged a little with a smile, flicking his hair back out of his eyes. He was actually enjoying being able to talk to Salizar, and decided that he definitely needed to thank Nykki for the whole thing.

Though when Nykki had first said that his intended date was a musician, Salizar had been a little skeptical. Musicians tended to be more... lax... than Salizar was used to. He did understand about being a workaholic though. "Yeah, I seem to spend more time at the school than I do at home. Hell, recently I've been sleeping more at the school than I have at my house." He tended to just get so caught up in things that it was simply to late to think about driving home safely, and so more often than not, he ended up crashing on the cot in his office in the infirmary.
"And since right now, I'm really the only doctor, even when I'm not at school, I am on call in case there is some kind of emergency at the school. I mean, sure, the Headmaster could fill in on occasion, but since he took over being Headmaster, he's got all that responsibility, he couldn't continue to work regularly in the infirmary." Even though that had been his position before he'd become Headmaster, it was a great deal of work to be the Headmaster of a school like St. Helena's. Or goodness, of any school, really, but especially one like this. Because of the students and of how many of them were there because the courts had sent them, this place was run more like a juvenile facility than a normal school.
Though when the other male stated that Salizar looked better than him, Salizar shook his head slightly. "I'm afraid you're wrong there, Alaric. I only wish I could pull off something like what you're wearing. Jeans never did look all that good on me, and I'm no where near brave enough to do some kind of unusual hairdo. I'd be petrified of how it looked and not being able to change it once it was done." He shook his head slightly at the thought. He'd never really been able to wear jeans comfortably, even when he'd been in school. Of course, because of that, he only got made fun of even more and shunned for being odd. He made a slight face at the thought. He glanced up at Alaric as the other male mused over the menu.
"Thanks. I never met the previous head of the department, but... they said he retired and they were having trouble filling the position. Apparently not many doctors want to work with... the students from St. Helena's. I spoke to a few over at the hospital who I know live in the area... and they said that they didn't even like having to treat some of the kids when they came into the emergency room." He shook his head at that. How could anyone deny help when it was their job to provide that help? Especially to a child or teenager. "They told me about one incident last year where an ambulance was called to the school because they thought two students had gotten into an all-out fight."
He wasn't sure if he believed this story or not, sounded a bit to... extravagant to him. "Both boys were found unconcious in one of the dorm rooms or something... from blood loss. Though apparently, when they were roused, they claimed that nothing was wrong, and demanded to be released from the hospital. One of them got violent enough to stab one of the doctors with the butterfly used in his IV." He still wasn't sure about all that. Though he shrugged slightly. "They're afraid of the students there." Though he had been glad that they hired Abigail. "It makes sense they'd hire someone who has been through what the students have. Makes it a bit easier for them to understand the difficulties the students have. Something to relate to them with." Much like Alaric himself, Salizar was sure.
He smiled at Alaric placed his own order before the other said that his date sucked, but that Alaric's last date had been worse. When Salizar listened to the other's last dating experience, Salizar winced. "Ouch. Yeah, I think yours is worse. But I promise you, I'm not about to leave half-way through to meet up and get back together with an Ex. I've never actually had anyone I would call a boyfriend or a girlfriend, so I technically have no exes..." He shrugged slightly at the thought. "So you're clear of that from my way." He smiled, looking up when the waiter returned with his drink and he raised it to his lips and took a drink while watching the other male. "So, are you just a music teacher? Abigail said that you also liked to write music, what sort of things do you write?" | [atrb=style, font-family: Tahoma; word-spacing: 1px; text-align: center; background-color: #000000; border: 2px solid #939393; color: ; padding: 10px; opacity: 0.5]TAGGED: ric || WORD: 846 || OUTFIT: clicky

Alaric laughed with a nod and a smile. Between his band and actual work, there was hardly a moment that he was not working on something. Open mic nights were about as far as the band got because none of them were pushing to try to get found; it was more fun than anything. However, Alaric always took his music writing seriously. It was a form of expression, an extension of himself. He would not take that so light-heartedly. He nodded a little as Salizar mentioned always being on call. That had to make things difficult. Ric did not know if he would be able to rest with that looming over him. It was difficult enough to sleep without waking up to check his phone every so often. He was always afraid he missed an important call. "Oh, you can always change it when it's done," Alaric laughed with a dismissive wave of his hand and he looked the other man over once before smiling. "I dunno, though. I think you'd look pretty great in jeans, maybe a darker wash." Ric could easily tell that Salizar was one of those guys who looked ridiculously good in jeans that showed off his, er, assets. However, whether or not Salizar was comfortable wearing something like that was something else entirely. "I don't like slacks or jeans that are too loose. I've always got this fear they're gonna like... fall off or something." He never felt covered wearing anything like that; and the weird feeling of the breeze coming up under the bottom of the jeans up the leg area was highly unwelcome. Besides, Alaric was pretty sure that Salizar looked best in nothing at all. However, that was not the time nor place for a comment like that.
"Yeah," Alaric sighed softly with a shake of his head and a faint frown. "All of the students bear a bad reputation simply because some of them tend to be violent. It's sad, and I hate the looks the students get from the people in town. It's... s'actually worse now that the looks aren't directed at me." When he had been a student, one of those "bad kids" that bore an invisible banner over his head stating that he went to St. Helena's, he could easily just ignore the dirty looks and curt comments. It did not bother him. Now that it was his students getting the same treatment, it was a different story. Alaric paled just a little when Salizar brought up the incident from the year before. He knew exactly what case that the man was talking about. Ric was not sure if those two specific teens were back that term; but, he had a feeling that they probably were. Where else were they to go until they turned eighteen? "I know the case. Yony Katana and Axel Owens. They're like... attached at the hip and bring bad news. It's not my division. I try to not get involved in things like that." Alaric was counselor to neither of them, and as far as he was aware, neither were in any of his classes. They were two people that he would not wish upon anyone. While he believed there was hope for almost every single student that came into the school; there were those so far gone, such as those two, that Ric was not sure it was possible to get them to behave more civilized. Nobody had even been aware that Axel was a violent individual until he began to spend time with Katana, and one of the therapists wanted to blame Katana for the change. Owens was there for being suicidal, after all.
Alaric laughed a little when Salizar mentioned that his own date had been worse. That, Ric had known without anyone pointing it out. He smiled, though, and shrugged as he flicked his hair back out of his eyes. "That's just my luck, actually," he replied. Honestly, it really was his luck with the whole dating thing. He had absolutely no luck with it. He was pretty sure that though the date was going well so far, his luck with relationships would mess things up soon enough. "Well, I'm also a choir teacher, which is music technically, and I'm a counselor; so, there's that." Alaric laughed softly and shrugged a little as he flicked his hair out of his eyes. "I guess you'd call it pop rock in style? I'm not sure. There are so many fine lines anymore. S'mostly stuff that I can't say otherwise, or just whatever inspires me. I love music. It's... pretty much one of the best things in my life. If it weren't for Abby, and falling in to music? I'd probably still be using." Alaric absentmindedly pressed his thumb over one of the faint but still there track marks on his left forearm, something that might never fade. Most people did not notice it because it simply looked like a darker vein; but, he knew it for what it was.

"I spend more time at the school than I do at home. That includes sleeping time. I'm usually always on call, and my house is quite a ways out of town, so its easier and more effieicent for me to stay there. If there is an emergency... then I'm right there to handle it. Until we get some more medical staff, I'm afraid that'll probably be the norm." Unfortunatley. Now Salizar had Chris there to help during the days, so he could get some time off. But Chris was only an RN, there were some things he was not allowed to do. Anything invasive, couldn't be done by an RN without a licensed doctor there except draw blood. But the drawing of blood had to be authorized by a doctor. It was all quite complicated, truly.
When the other stated that he could always change something once it was done, he shrugged. "Not if I cut my hair to short or something of that nature. Then I just have to wait for it to grow back, so then I have to look at it and not like it for however long it takes for it to grow out." He shrugged slightly at the thought before the other male stated that he'd look good in jeans. "Perhaps. I always thought they made me look... not good," he stated simply, wondering over the thought, perhaps now that he was a little older and better... filled out... he could try jeans. He wasn't sure though, what if they still made him look bad? He didn't like looking bad.
He laughed though as Alaric stated he was afraid that looser pants would fall off. "I never had that fear, I usually always wear a belt with mine." He did smile though, faintly amused at the other male wearing pants that would fall off of him. He rather liked the way the other male looked in the pants he wore, so perhaps that was a good thing that he was wearing the looser pants. Not that he was having that particular problem right at that moment... but it could happen. How embarassing would that be in tight jeans?
He frowned though when the other male stated that all the students from the school had a bad reputation just because some of them tend to be violent. "That's the way society works, unfortunately. They tend not to look at individuals, but group them together and think of them as a whole. That's just how prejudices work, sadly. You take one group of people who dislike another group, and there you have it." It was the way the world was run. Had been in the past, it was now, and unfortunately, likely would be in the future. He looked up at Alaric as he stated that he knew the case. Alaric had been at the school last year, so it made sense that he would know the details and who it involved.
Yony Katana and Axel Owens. The names were familiar, he remembered seeing their files. Yony's, in particular, had been quite large for only having been there a year. He'd been in the infirmary several times the previous year due to lacerations on his skin, fighting, and several other things. He also had one of the worst histories that Salizar had read, though he couldn't remember it all, only that Yony's father had killed Yony's mother and sister after torturing Yony for his entire life up to the age of 15 when Yony had attacked back and killed him. And Axel Owens, his was just a tragic story, truly, with his family being killed and Axel attempting to take his own life in foster care afterwards. It was odd that Alaric said that it had been the two of them.
"What have they in common?" Salizar asked. "From what I remember reading, Katana is a sociopath... Owens was brought in for attempted suicide. You don't think that, perhaps, Katana has managed somehow to... manipulate Owens to his wishes, do you?" Suicidals tended to have very low self-esteem and were easily manipulated by those who had a bit of patience to work on them for a little while. It was highly likely that Katana was using Owens. Though he shook his head, waving his hand. "Nevermind, we aren't here to talk about work... my apologies, I'll try to remember myself." It was hard sometimes though, considering how much time Salizar spent on his work.
He tilted his head slightly as the other stated that he was the choir teacher as well as a counselor. He nodded faintly, smiling slightly as the other stated that he just loved music. It was good that the male had that to fall back on then. When he admitted that he'd probably still be using if it weren't for music and Abigail, Salizar gave a small nod. "I'm glad you've found a better outlet for yourself then," he said honestly. "It's good that the students have someone like you, and even Abigail, that have been through all of this before and can relate better to them. I'm sure that helps a lot. The students that I counsel tend to either think there is nothing wrong with them or that I cannot help them because I've no idea what they're going through. It's a bit difficult that way." But he had to try, he couldn't just not do what he could to help. | [atrb=style, font-family: Tahoma; word-spacing: 1px; text-align: center; background-color: #000000; border: 2px solid #939393; color: ; padding: 10px; opacity: 0.5]TAGGED: ric || WORD: 950 || OUTFIT: clicky

He guessed that made some sense. Then again, he lived quite a bit outside town and he made the drive every day. It probably was not the most efficient thing to do in terms of gas usage. However, Alaric did not really care about that too much. "I don't live very near the school either. It's quite a drive, especially in the mornings when I'm still waking up, but I love it there," he explained with a nod, flicking his hair back out of his eyes. "I live out on the beach just up the way. S'pretty cool." Ric loved his small beach house. It could be a bit terrifying when it was storming, but the rest of the time, it was lovely. Plus, Ric did not get bothered by neighbors out there and he did not have to worry about playing his music too loud. It was definitely a win-win type of situation.
"Ah, well, yes hair cuts are harder to change; but, I was more thinking about the color. That you can always fix." He smiled and nodded as he continued to toy with his glass and his straw. It was a nervous habit, and Ric was still kind of nervous about the whole thing. He was a lot more relaxed than he had been before, though. So far, the evening was going better than he had expected, but a part of him was just waiting for the turn-around. "Mmm... pretty sure it's impossible for you to not look good," Alaric replied as he laughed softly, nodding a little. He flicked his hair out of his eyes, smiling at Salizar's comment about wearing a belt. "I wear those, but with loose pants they still don't make me get past that whole fear. It'd be my luck the belt would be faulty." Ric honestly did not have the best of luck with things like that; and, honestly, he always found it a wonder that he did not stain more of his work shirts than he already did. Ric smiled at the waitress as she brought them some salad and breadsticks for them to have while continuing to wait for their main courses to be done. The breadsticks were always Alaric's favorite part, and he commented as such as he took one out of the basket.
Alaric shrugged when he was asked what Katana and Owens had in common. Honestly, Ric did not know. He did not know the details of their cases, nor what happened beyond what he had already shared. Just what he knew about Katana gave him the creeps. Ric was not sure if Owens was so close to the boy because of force or by choice. A part of Ric figured that it was something that none of them would ever really know. There would always be speculation; but, when it came down to it, the truth was between the two boys. "Nah, it's fine. Don't worry about it. Work's a pretty big part of our lives; it's kinda hard not to talk about it from time to time," Alaric replied with a smile as he flicked his hair back out of his eyes. Honestly, it was kind of nice to have someone to talk to about work that wasn't Abby. He would never talk to one of his other friends for privacy issues; plus, it was not anything any of them would ever really understand.
He smiled a little when Salizar mentioned being glad that he had found another outlet. It did make things easier, but it was not a fix all. Alaric would never consider himself being recovered. That was too much of a stretch. He was recovering, a state he believed that he would always be in. It was difficult, but he had reasons to try. "It's nice having Abby there, now; s'almost like old times." He chuckled a bit with a smile at the mention of his best friend, honestly glad that they were in the same place again. He had missed his not-sister a lot more than he had realized until she was back again. "So, did you grow up in this area, or did you move here? I moved here for school and never left. Kinda... not exactly planning on ever returning home." Home was where the bad things were; the cemetery that his friend was buried at, his parents, his old friends. It was too much of a promise of relapse. Sometimes, he almost thought he was ready to head home, at least for a visit; but, then he would remember the last conversation he had with his parents and decide it was just better to not.

It made sense, most teachers wanted to be a little bit aways from the school, it was their way of being able to cope with some of the things that went on here. Unlike Salizar who would swear he practically lived at the school, worried that if he left, some emergency would come up and he wouldn't be able to make it back to the school in time. Katana and Owens had ruined the local doctors against wanting to treat St. Helena's students, and while he was sure that they would, it would be difficult for them to receive the proper treatment at the hospital. Unfortunately, because the doctors would keep their distance from their patients. "That sounds really nice. Mine is a bit further, the Serpen Estate outside of town is where I live. I inherited it from my aunt..." he stated, wincing slightly.
Of course, when the other stated that the color he could always change, Salizar nodded slightly. "Yeah, I suppose that's true. But I wouldn't even know what color to make it. I'm not all that good with color coordinating," he stated, laughing softly. "I tend to wear black pants, and pretty much anything goes with black so... I don't really have to worry about what matches. My shirts are usually a very plain color..." Another shrug. Of course, Nykki kept trying to change his wardrobe all the time. There was one time in college when he'd come back to his dorm and every piece of clothing he'd owned had been replaced with something else. He'd instantly known, of course, that Nykki was the one who had replaced his clothes, but to that day, he had no idea what she'd done with them.
Salizar laughed though as the other male stated that it was impossible for him not to look good. "You've not seen me at my worst, though... just ask Abigail, she's walked in on me in some not-so-pleasant circumstances..." he stated, laughing softly. "She sometimes has problems with knocking..." He laughed at that thought, remembering how many times she simply walked into his bathroom when he was just coming from the shower or into his dorm whenever he was changing. Abigail was probably the only one really that had seen him without his clothes on in a very long time. At the thought of a belt being faulty though, Salizar arched an eyebrow. "Now I've never heard of a faulty belt unless it was old and worn out..."
Perhaps Alaric was just a little paranoid. He was glad though, that Abigail's presence helped the other male with his struggles, he knew that Abigail was good for things like that. She had a good heart and hated to see anyone suffering from anything. "Abigail used to talk about you all the time when we were in school. I think she even went to visit you a few times in college, said that she was missing her 'Roo' and had to go see him..." He chuckled at the thought of the nickname she'd created for Alaric and he tilted his head. When he was asked about how he got into the area, he simply shrugged slightly.
"I spent a few summers here with my Aunt and Uncle. They didn't have any children of their own, so when my aunt passed away, she left the manor to me. I didn't want the family home to get run down from just being left to sit, so I came up here to... inhabit it so that it didn't fall to ruin." He shrugged slightly. "So I wasn't here much, and when I was, I was usually on the estate, I didn't come into town much... that was left for... other people to do. I tended to just play on the grounds in the gardens and such." He'd been alone a lot, except when he'd been a lot younger and had a nanny. But he'd outgrown a nanny by the time he was 5. He'd put a stop to someone following him around at a very young age. | [atrb=style, font-family: Tahoma; word-spacing: 1px; text-align: center; background-color: #000000; border: 2px solid #939393; color: ; padding: 10px; opacity: 0.5]TAGGED: ric || WORD: 729 || OUTFIT: clicky
