Hunter found himself fidgeting all through his Mythology class. Actually, it had been a lot longer than just that class. Ever since AJ had told him yesterday he wanted Hunter to stay after class today, Hunter had been on edge. Being asked to stay after class was never a good thing. Not that he knew from personal experience. He didn't. Before coming to St. Helena's he hadn't attended school in a while, and when he had, he didn't do much. Sure, he'd pay attention to the lecture, if he felt like it, but he didn't do homework. Didn't write anything. Because he couldn't. When it came to school, he was stupid. It was impossible to skip at St. Helena's though, he'd tried when he'd arrived, it didn't fly. Until he got moved he would just have to deal with it. Act like he knew what the hell was going on At least he could follow along better in AJ's class by listening than he could in math or science. Forget reading where he was expected to read books. When the class was dismissed, the thought of bolting out of the room quickly crossed his mind. But that would raise suspicions, so he stayed put. For all he knew AJ was just going to get on him because he hadn't turned in work. And he could save his breath because Hunter was not going to. His knee bounced in a nervous tick he was not even aware of, as he shoved his notebook and pen into his backpack. A notebook he'd done nothing more than doodle in during class. He had a hard time paying attention in class today, and not because he couldn't read. Watching as the last few students left, he hastily zipped up his backpack, and let it drop to the floor with a thud. He leaned back in his chair, trying to play it cool, as he looked around frowning. In the time he'd been at St. Helena's AJ hadn't been half bad. Hunter wouldn't say he liked him by any means, but he didn't downright hate him. After this, maybe that would change, he thought to himself. OUTFITTimeline: August 19th, 3:00 PM Hunter's been at St. Helena's about two weeks.

A.J. asked from the front of the classroom, where he was sitting on top of the desk, absentmindedly tapping his ink pen against the leg of his jeans. He only had a few minutes left in the class, but knew that none of the students were really paying attention. Nobody ever was with only a few minutes to spare before the bell rang. Plus, he did not think any of the students in mythology really had a liking toward the subject. They probably just thought it was an easy A. It probably was, considering half the time it was his lesson plans and all that jazz whenever the actual teacher decided he should do it. A.J. enjoyed the course, himself; but, he had always been fascinated with things like that. "Right," he said with a nod when one of the girls in the back gave a less-than-interested-but-correct answer. A.J.'s gaze darted over to the clock on the wall and he shifted in place, not sure if he or the students were more antsy for the class to be over. One of the students, Hunter Jameson, had been asked to stay behind that day. He and his adviser, Nykki, were wanting to talk to him about his school work (or lack thereof). There were suspicions on why the student had not turned in homework, especially after having seen the teen's quiz. However, A.J. was still new to the whole thing and was not exactly sure the best way to handle things. He hoped that maybe approaching the issue informally would take the pressure off of Hunter and make him more willing to listen. "Alright, guys, it's a few minutes early, but go on and get out of here. The teach wants you to have finished the next chapter by Wednesday, keep that in mind. No homework. Get out. I'm tired of seeing you." His voice held a note of teasing at the end, smiling brightly at them all before reaching up to absently run a hand through his hair, only to shift the beanie on his head instead, having forgotten it was there.
A.J. busied himself with straightening up the desk as the students started to leave the room, keeping an eye on Hunter to make sure that he did not try to up and leave despite having been asked to stay. He waited until all the other students had left before smiling at Hunter from his spot on top of the desk, idly swinging his legs a little as he said, "I know you'd probably rather be anywhere but here, so I'm going to try to keep this short. Miss Nykhole is gonna be stopping by here any minute, too. Anyway, I was wondering if you could share with me why you haven't turned in any of the assignments. D'you think I should do them different or try another approach? I'm new to this whole teaching thing, so I'd like to know your thoughts on the class so far." A.J. did not want to jump the gun and anger Hunter by accusations or questions that might make him defensive. It would be counter productive to the entire thing. He really just wanted to be able to help the kid. Plus, he needed something to fill the time until Miss Perretta got there. He smiled as she came into the room, and immediately offered her one of the two sodas he had sitting on the desk. "Hiya," A.J. said to her with a smile before looking back to the student in the room with them. "I'm not sure if the two of you have met, but Hunter, this is Miss Perretta." A.J. did not know the schedules of the students in his classes, and he could not remember if Hunter was in any of Nykhole's classes. It was probably something he should have known, but whatever.

danger in the shape of somethin' wild stranger dressed in black, she's a hungry child tagged: aj&hunter || words: 486 || outfit: clickylyrics: hot child in the city by nick gilder "Have a good day!" Nykki called out to the last appointment that she had that day. She smiled brightly, watching her door shut before she began putting her papers in order and sliding them into the perfectly organized filing cabinet behind her desk. Okay, so some of her OCD tendancies still tended to run her life, but she coped with it. It didn't rule her the way it once did. If she didn't have her routine, she didn't go off the deep end. But still, methodically, she put her files away, locked the cabinet before removing her lab coat and heading out of the office, locked the door and clipped the keys to her belt loop.
With one folder in hand, she headed down the hall with determined strides, smiling pleasantly at those she passed until she came to the history department and entered into the classroom where AJ was waiting with their mutual student. She grinned, dancing towards him to grab the second soda he'd brought, leaning in to kiss his cheek easily before lifting herself up to sit on the desk and opening the soda with ease and taking a drink. She smiled slightly as AJ thought to introduce them and she waved her hand holding the folder. "Hunter and I go way back," she stated teasingly, grinning at the boy. "He's in my Chem One class, so he knows who I am. And you," she playfully kicked at AJ's leg.
"You should know better. 'Miss Perretta'? Really? Everyone calls me Nykki... except you, AJ. Stop being so proper," she stated, rolling her eyes slightly before she looked over towards Hunter with a dramatic flare as if being made to suffer such insolence as someone calling her 'Miss Perretta' was the greatest offense anyone could give to her. "Anyway!" she exclaimed, setting her soda down and folding her hands on her lap, gripping her folder lightly. "How are you today, Hunter?" she asked pleasantly, crossing her legs at the ankles and swinging them like a child would. She smiled slightly, watching the two males in the room. She didn't want either of them to be intimidated by her.
Men were like that sometimes. So weird, really, to be intimidated by a girl. But hey... some guys were just like that. And Hunter was a student, so she guessed she could understand if he were intimidated, or AJ who was her intern. She could also see that intimidation. But still. She didn't want to be intimidating. At least... not to them. "I dunno about you, but me personally... I'm getting swamped with stuff to do. Hardly a minute to myself so long as I'm in the lab!" she exclaimed easily. hot child in the city runnin' wild and lookin' pretty template by emrysdaelan @ caution 2.0keep credit or angry badgers will nom your face off |

Hunter tapped his fingers lightly on the desk in front of him, wanting A.J. To hurry up and spit out what this meeting was all about. When the older man spoke, he stopped and looked him in the eye. His Chem teacher was coming too? What was going on? He crossed his arms over his chest, and shrugged his shoulders. After a moment, he said, ”Doesn't matter how you do it, school is stupid.” Though he knew it was him who was stupid, not school, or A.J.'s assignments. No one else seemed to struggle like he did. He enjoyed A.J.'s class, but would never admit that out loud.
When Miss Perretta came into the room, Hunter's gaze went between the two teachers, and the door as they talked. Was leaving an option? They had so much pep. He watched the teasing banter between the two, not saying anything, not sure if he was supposed to. Besides, he wouldn't know what to say anyway. Was it even healthy to be that happy? It was almost sickening. In how they talked, how they acted. He did not feel that way. At all. What was there in his life to be happy about? Not a damn thing that he could think of. His parents were dead. His brother. Dead. Grandfather, dead. And Emma was gone too. The only person h really had in his like was his Abuela, but she could not even remember who he was anymore. He wasn't going to pretend to be happy when he wasn't, for them, or anyone. Hunter's gaze when to the folder in her hands, and then back to her face. ” Fine,” he answered briskly, irritation clear in his voice. Seriously, happiness seemed to just flow from them, and he was so not feeling it.
As Miss Perretta continued to talk, he slouched back in his seat, stretched his legs out in front of him, and stared straight ahead frowning. He didn't care how swamped she was with things. Not his problem. And what the hell did that have to do with him needing a stupid meeting with the two of them? There were better things he could be doing with his time. Hunter exhaled sharply through his nose. He just wanted them to get on with it, and not try to make annoying small talk with him. There was no way he would be their friend. And he was So. Not. Amused.
