History:
Hunter had no reason to think his life would fall apart. He was born the oldest child to two loving parents, and had a little brother he adored. When he was 5 years old, he was having a sleepover at a friend from his kindergarten class. His friend's Mom came and woke him up during the night. She tried to explain to him that his Mother, Father, and baby brother had been killed in a house fire. Officials sited it as an accident due to some bad wiring.
Hunter went and lived with his Maternal grandparents. His paternal grandparents were no longer alive and both of his parents had been the only child, so he had no aunts or uncles to take him in. His grandfather was in poor heath, so his grandmother took care of him. When Hunter was 7 his grandmother began showing signs of dementia, and was deemed no longer able to care for him. At this time he was put into the foster care system. He spent his first few months in a group home and made a few friends. They allowed him to call his grandmother every few days and talk to her.
He then moved into his first foster home. He was their fourth foster kid. He kept his distance from the family and refused to call the parents Mom and Dad. After a few weeks there, the social worker moved him wanting to see if she could find a better match for him. Next, he was placed in a house where he was the only child. He felt really uncomfortable there, like they were watching his every move and was removed a few months later. As far as he can remember, that was his longest placement to date.
He was moved from home to home repeatedly, families stating that he did not seem happy and did not try to connect with them. He was moved so much and changing schools constantly, he was passing his classes with D's. He went to class, but what he was supposed to be learning changed every time he switched schools. He couldn't read, but was embarrassed, and never told anyone. None of his teachers seemed to notice or care and just passed him along. He bullied kids at the schools he went to and was not very well liked.
When he stared high school, he started skipping class to get high and drink. He started hanging out with a crowd of kids who did the same thing. He fell in love with one of the girls in the group, Emma, and the two began dating. He got moved a few months later. About a year and a half later he was transferred back to the same school, but with a different foster family. Hunter found out Emma had died about 6 months before that from a drug overdose. Because of this he became even more withdrawn and depressed.
His social worker confused by his attitude change, and at a loss for how to help him, decided to send him to St. Helena's[/justify][/blockquote][/size]
